Brainerd also includes land on both sides of the Mississippi River, making it a unique town. Located on Highway 210, the park extends into parts of the Cuyuna Iron Range – an area that was once a mining region. The Northland Arboretum is also nearby and offers almost 600 acres of nature reserves. Since 1972, this converted landfill has been a popular place for hiking, skiing and many other outdoor activities throughout the year.

Brainerd schools typically have about 17 students for each classroom and teacher. Since the district can afford to spend about $6,000 for each student in its schools, parents can be confident that their children get the latest and best resources to achieve academic success. Schools in the area include Brainerd Senior High, Garfield Elementary and Harrison Elementary School, among several other choices in the public and private sector.
