If you have pets, then you know how wonderful and fulfilling it can be. Sure, it's a lot of work. But it's also very rewarding. There's nothing better than coming home from a long day at work and having your furry best friend waiting for you at the door. Your pet gives you unconditional love and requires so little back like food, water, treats, a stroll in the park and a gentle rub behind the ears. If you are moving into an apartment and you have a pet, there are a few things that you need to know before you do.
When you move into your apartment, make sure you've read all the fine print on your lease concerning your pet. The apartment complex may be pet-friendly, but it may have very strict rules on size and weight of a pet. Be sure to check the lease or ask how big or small a pet can be and if the apartment charges extra if your pet is a little bigger than the size stated. Some apartments may charge you more if you have a dog versus having a cat. Or the apartment may only allow cats and birds in the apartment. The lease will usually state what kind of pet you can have, if any. Also, there are usually designated pet areas around the apartments. However, if there aren't any, then be mindful of your pet and clean up after it.
Living in an apartment and having a pet can be tricky. Most apartments don't offer you a doggie door or fenced in yards for little fluffy to run around in. Because of this, your pet will depend on you to take them outside for walks as much as you can. When you are gone, make sure your pet has plenty of food and water and safe toys to play with. Most people aren't lucky enough to be able to bring their pets to work everyday or work from home, but if you work close to home you could stop by at lunch and spend some time with your pet. It's good for your pet and you get to step out of the office and get some fresh air. If you have room in your budget and are not able to come home for lunch, hire a pet sitter or a trusted friend to come by everyday and take your pet on walks.
Having a pet can enrich your life, but you have to be responsible. It's almost like having a child in the house. Make sure you are aware of your surroundings and that your pet and neighbors are safe from any danger. Think about the space you have and the time you can dedicate to your pet. If you feel that there is plenty of both, than find that perfect pet and enjoy each other.
