Rhode Island is smallest state in the United States, covering 1,214 square miles. Rhode Island is bordered on the north and east by Massachusetts, on the west by Connecticut, and on the Atlantic Ocean. Nicknamed the Ocean State, Rhode Island with a median home value of $133,000 and has the most oceanfront real estate per capita as well as per land area in the United States. Rhode Island is home to Block Island which lies approximately 12 miles off the southern coast of the mainland. Within the Bay, there are over 30 islands. The largest is Aquidneck Island, shared by the municipalities of Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth.
